Now this may sound like old news because, to be honest, the project has been running since October 2016, but we’re firm believers in the old adage that things are better late than never so, because of that, we’re going to tell you all about it anyway! Plus, the campaign is still running and we wouldn’t like you to forget about it now, would we?! But what on earth are we going on about, we hear you cry? Our collaboration with the charity Action for Children of course! What else?!
Just in case you have missed it so far, Kidult and Co have teamed up with this exceptional UK charity to do our little bit to help provide them with some much-needed funds, and it’s a collaboration that we’re particularly proud of, because it ties in with a theme that we value very highly too; equality.
Action for Children
You’ve probably heard of Action for Children; they are a national UK charity who work to improve the lives of children all over the country, in many different ways. And they’ve been doing it for a long time too; the first ‘children’s home’ was founded in 1868 by the Methodist Minister, Thomas Bowman Stephenson, who was so moved by the plight of street children in Victorian London that he determined to do something practical in response.
Almost 150 years later, the charity has grown to be a nationally recognised institution and the work Thomas Stephenson started is still being carried on in various guises. As they did all those years ago, Action for Children still offer practical help to children in need today, whether that be through family support services run in partnership with local authorities, through their fostering schemes or by providing support to young carers, teenage parents or children facing homelessness or the effects of alcohol or substance abuse. True to its roots, the charity also still runs a number of schools for children with disabilities and profound learning disabilities, as well as being a key lobbyist on behalf of vulnerable, disadvantaged and neglected children.
Action for Children’s Core Beliefs
Action for Children advocate helping children from before they are born until they are in their twenties, stating on their website;
“We help them through fostering or adoption – and by intervening early to stop neglect and abuse. We make life better for children with disabilities. We influence policy and advocate for change. Our 7,000 staff and volunteers operate over 600 services, improving the lives of 390,000 children, teenagers, parents and carers every year. We succeed by doing what’s right, doing what’s needed, and doing what works for children.”
Everything that Action for Children advocates is evidence based, having been tried and tested by thorough research and in practical settings over the last 147 years. The charity states on its website that “evidence drives everything we do”, as they work “in partnership with other charities, local authorities and health services, and are supported by a team of experts and specialists”.
At the heart of everything Action for Children does is the core belief that all children are born equal and deserve an equal opportunity to shine and succeed. And as this chimes perfectly with what Kidult and Co believe, a collaboration between the two of us seemed like an obvious choice.
The Kidult and Co Equality Tee
As we told you in our recent blog post about our brand values, Kidult and Co are firm believers in the principle that all children are born equal, no matter what their gender, or social or economic background might be, and no matter what circumstances they are born into. That’s why, last year, when we started looking about for a cause to support, that of Action for Children seemed like the perfect option for us, and the charity were only too keen to back us up too.
So that’s why we came up with the equality tee, a uniquely designed, hand printed t-shirt, made right here in the UK from 100% cotton. The ‘When I Grow Up I Want To Be Equal’ tee features an ‘equals’ symbol, printed in black onto a white shirt, and comes in both adult and children’s sizes.
But not only does this t-shirt look amazing, it also helps to raise vital funds for Action for Children, because Kidult and Co will donate £2 from the sale of every equality t-shirt to the charity. As this funky tee is only priced at between £11.00 and £17.00 each, that’s quite a chunk, and means that you can be sure that every purchase you make not only encourages your kids to follow their dreams, but also contributes a significant amount of money to a very worthy cause. It’s win-win all round.
